MAC Swatch & Mini-Review

Friday I posted a photo on Instagram of some depotted MAC eyeshadows that I took back for a free lipstick courtesy of the Back to MAC program.

I thought a nice swatch post with my thoughts on the shadows would be in order, so with no further ado, away we go!

First up is MAC's Club eyeshadow:

I was afraid of Club for the longest time.  It's a duochrome shadow mixing the colors of green and brown.  It looks muddy in the pan and a bit iridescent on the finger and the duochrome holds strong when applied.

I wondered how in the world would I wear this shadow and could I pull it off at my age?  The answer is YES.  I'm now of the opinion that Club is a shadow that should be in every collection.  It's really quite versatile, you can use it all over the lid and then blended out for a quick and easy smokey eye that looks like you used multiple shadows and invested time and effort in creating the look.  It's also a great crease color and I also like to use it to smoke out my lower lash line.

One of the best things about duochrome eye shadows is applying them over different coloured bases can create a whole new shadow.  I swiped some Rimmel Scandal Eyes Blackmail on my hand and then swatched Club over it.  It completely removes the brown, leaving the most glorious green.

MAC's Greensmoke:

Greensmoke looks a lot more glittery in the pan (no really, my picture doesn't do the glittery effect justice) than it actually comes across when applied.  For me, that's a plus.

It has a khaki-oliveness to it that I love and in fact, pairs nicely with Sumptuous Olive (shown below).

MAC's Omega:

Omega isn't going to win any beauty contests, but it's a multi-tasking workhorse!  It's a ashy taupe colour that works great in the crease as a transition shade.

I also use it to fill in my brows and even contour my face with it.

MAC's Goldmine:

I apologise, this color is actually more gold than the yellow it's appearing above.  I'm not really sure why I bought it and I've barely used it.

It was a bit of an impulse purchase at my local CCO.  For me, I'll probably use it sparingly for an inner corner highlight.  I'll have to comb the internet for ideas, though yellow really isn't my colour.  Suggestions welcome!

MAC's Kid:

This is a colour that I believe MAC has discontinued, but I'd read enough about it as a transition shade that when I found it at the CCO, I had to grab one.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure this colour works for me.

It's another taupe-y shade, but when I wear it, it's… too pinkish for me or something.  I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it just doesn't suit me.  I'll keep trying though.

MAC's Sumptuous Olive:

Oh. My. God.  I love this colour.  The name is a perfect description.  It pairs with so many shadows and looks gorgeous all by itself.

I mean just look at that?!  How beautiful can you get?

Lastly, we have MAC's Stars 'n Rockets:

Another duochrome, but definitely not one that's as versatile and easy to wear as Club.  This is a BOLD colour.  MAC describes it as "purple with pink pearl".

I'd say that's a good description.  Even taken on an iPhone on a cloudy day, you can see clearly that it's more of a blue-toned purple than red.  Shiny!  I was a bit intimidated by this colour when I first got it, but after seeing it used in some examples around the internet, I've embraced it's uniqueness.

And something magical happens when you put it over black!  I used the same Rimmel Blackmail to swatch this over and LOOOOOK:

Ahhhhh.  So pretty.  I'm not brave enough to wear this all over the lid, but I have used this for eyeliner and it's fantastic!

If you have any of these colours, how do you like to wear them?
